Overall Rating | 3 FDL | |
Type of Site | Leanto Site | |
Easy to find? | Yes | It is easy to find, but not easy to get to. |
Capacity | 10 Leantos | Leantos generally sleep 4 big fat Scouters with plenty of room. Judge your own unit. |
Can you drive to it? | You can if your car can drive over water. | There used to be a foot bridge to the site. The bridge washed away years ago and the amount of money it would take to do an environmental study to put it back would cost zillions of dollars. |
Water | You can get the water out of the Ten Mile River. |
If you get water from Ten Mile River, you have to purify it somehow for ALL purposes. |
Latrine | There is a two seater. | Since access to the site is limited, the latrine is probably in a state of disrepair. |
Biggest Advantage | It sits right on the Ten Mile River. | It is a beautiful secluded woodland site with a mountain stream running right through it. |
Secondary Advantage | The Red Dot Trail runs right through it. | If you are doing a 50 miler, it is a nice trailside site. |
Primary Disadvantage | It is VERY hard to get to. | You either have to ford the Ten Mile River, it is about two feet deep and 100 yards across. OR you have to hike in; park your car near the Arch Bridge site and hike past The Pines, Lenape, over the wooden bridge down a steep hill, to the back door of the site. |
Secondary disadvantage | It is not used as much as it should be. | See access issues above. |
