Overall Rating | 4 FDL | |
Type of Site | Leanto Site | |
Easy to find? | Not really | You have to know where you are going, ask the ranger at check-in if you have problems. |
Capacity | 4 Leantos | Leantos generally sleep 4 big fat Scouters with plenty of room. Judge your own unit. |
Can you drive to it? | Yeah Baby | It is right over the Arch Bridge. Plenty of room for cars. No problem for an Italian Troop from The Bronx. |
Water | About 150 yards to the pump at The Pines. Or 25 steps to the Ten Mile River | Hand Pump can
be unreliable. Boil water for drinking.
If you get water from Ten Mile River, you have to purify it somehow for ALL purposes. |
Latrine | 15 steps to the 1 seater. | Baden Owl likes this Willy a "Hole Lot". |
Biggest Advantage | Sits right where the Delaware and Ten Mile Rivers meet | Baden Owl thinks this is one of the most picturesque and serine sites he knows. |
Secondary Advantage | At the base of the Tusten Mountain trail and Ten Mile River trail. | Near the main road, but still secluded. |
Primary Disadvantage | Unreliable water supply | If the water table is low, the pump may not work. There are times you may have to boil the water from the pump. |
Secondary disadvantage | It is a beautiful site for fishing. Make sure you fish in season with the appropriate licenses for New York State. | River is patrolled by the US Park Service and NYS DEC. |
