Overall Rating | 1 1/2 FDL | |
Type of Sites | Stone Leantos / Limited Tent Sites | Leentos are on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations only available for 2 night stay or longer at a ridiculous price. |
Easy to find? | Yes | You can't miss it. |
Site Availability | Generally OK | Expensive, expensive, expensive, $50 per night per leento. |
Can you drive to your site? | Yes | You can park right at your site. |
Water | Central water pump. | You can drive to the water and back to your site. |
Latrine | Central latrine facilities. | For a public facility, the latrine stinks to high heaven. |
Biggest Advantage | The trailside museum is very interesting for young scouts. | Good for a program for young scouts. Free admission. |
Secondary Advantage | Good for day hikes. Lots of trails. | Trails are
well marked, and well traveled. Plenty of wildlife and fields for
games, etc....
Some public picnic areas. |
Primary Disadvantage | Public park and camping facility. Not a BSA camp. | The price is
outrageous. $50 / night / leento. All kinds of weird
characters can go to it. Eg. Yuppies, Psdeudo outdoor sweater set,
drug addicts, weirdoes, freaks, creeps and filth.
Even for Day hikes, if the lady at the entrance has "issues", she will charge your group 7$ /car to park. |
Secondary disadvantage | For camping, the first come, first serve reservation policy is a bit chaotic. | Although it has never happened to us, they can say there is no sites for you and send you home on Saturday morning. |
Bonus Disadvantage | Checkout time is 9AM | They will charge you an additional $50 if you are there beyond 9AM. |
