Overall Rating | 3 1/2 FDL
Type of Sites | Leentos / Tents / Cabins | Large variety of different types of shelters and sites. Some of the cabins can be very rustic with pot belly stoves that may prove inadequate in very cold weather. |
Easy to find? | Yes | Right off the Palisades Parkway, Stony Point exit. Lots of signs. |
Site Availability | Generally OK | Tents and Leentoos easy to get a site, out of Council units must wait a month before their scheduled trip to book a cabin. Priority goes to in council units. |
Can you drive to your site? | No, central parking area | Sometimes the ranger or campmaster will allow you to drive one vehicle to your site to unload troop equipment, depending on his mood. |
Water | Central water spigot. | Either way, you are going to haul it. |
Latrine | Generally right in your site. | A bit rustic, but in good repair. |
Biggest Advantage | Easy to get to.
Secondary Advantage | Moderate size camp, lots of variety | The sites are not on top of one another, plenty of room for your scouting activities. |
Primary Disadvantage | Reservation policy for cabins. | If you do one big cabin trip per year, waiting until one month before your trip can be a bit nerve wracking. |
Secondary disadvantage | Watch for lots of Poison Ivy. | Be careful in the Spring and the Fall. |
